Art on the Avenue Gallery is pleased to announce the forthcoming exhibit, NEIL WOLF: DEPTH IN COLOR, featuring recent works of this New Hope area self-taught artist. The quiet beauty, the depth and vibrancy of his abstract paintings reveal a heightened sensitivity for color and composition and a poetic spirit. The over twenty acrylic paintings in the show bring to mind the often made association between abstract art and music, due to their ability to convey emotions, feelings and ideas, without reliance on or reference to recognizable forms. Neil Wolf’s pictorial surfaces are layered symphonies of color, whose variations and interactions he manipulates with talent and ability. He trusts his eye, his hand and his instincts and they are all on the mark.

Neil Wolf makes the viewer feel the importance of time in the process of painting. While this is probably not a conscious artistic objective, his technique of applying layer upon layer of paint on the canvas, subsequently exposing them, makes the creative process visible. When looking, you can almost feel how the painting slowly takes shape, how the artist struggles with the canvas and how he develops the abstract image.
